YOUNG skateboarders will have to wait until December to find out if a suitable new site for a Chippenham skate park has been identified.
North Wiltshire District Council chief executive Bob Marshall said officers were looking at two sites for the facility the original plot in Monkton Park, and the Bridge Centre.
But he said that the big issue would be noise. "We will report back to the executive committee before Christmas," he said.
He said in addition to the advice it has already had, the district council had taken on a second noise consultant, so it could be confident when presenting the information to councillors.
If the skatepark was located at the Bridge Centre it could be made into an indoor facility, which would provide all-weather use.
But the Bridge Centre stands in the middle of a busy roundabout and so access to it is a concern. In addition, an indoor facility would incur high costs, because it would need supervision.
"That will be one of the issues for councillors to balance," said Mr Marshall. He said no further sites had been earmarked at this stage.
Monkton Park skate park was closed in the summer after the publication of an ombudsman's report critical of the district council's handling of the noise nuisance caused by the skate park.
