SCREWFIX ROUND-UP: MELKSHAM Town moved up to fourth spot in the Screwfix Direct Premier Division table after handing in-form Bridgwater Town their first league defeat of the season at The Conigre on Saturday 28 September.
Luke Jones continued his fine early season form with two goals in the 3-1 win, the first coming from goalkeeper Dave Hunt's long ball on 12 minutes.
Player-boss Robbie Lardner made it two when he headed home Andy Sandell's free kick four minutes later.
Ben Kirk pulled one back for Bridgwater, whose hopes were dented on the stroke of half time when Marcus Vaughan was then red carded for striking Jones in the face. Jones added to the hosts' lead after the interval, while Matty Bown struck a post and missed two further chances late on.
Westbury United came crashing back down to earth with a 5-1 First Division hiding at high-flying Shepton Mallet.
Derek Graham's side went into the game unbeaten in their previous three league outings, but fell behind when Dean Loxton headed home Neil Davis' cross.
Loxton grabbed a second on 25 minutes, before Matt Lambert heaped more misery on the visitors with another five minutes after the interval.
Toby Colebourne pulled one back for the visitors within two minutes, but Liam Bounds headed home a corner to restore Shepton's three-goal advantage.
Substitute Sam Gurner completed the rout with 20 minutes to go, heading home Shaun Wolff's centre after goalkeeper Mark Batters had saved from Gould.
Westbury face fifth placed Hallen at home on Saturday, while Melksham travel to Keynsham Town in the Premier Division.
