A BUZZING up the chimney in Antrobus House, Amesbury, turned into a fascinating discovery when a fully formed honeycomb weighing two-and-a-half pounds was recovered.
Pest control officers were called in when a number of dead and dozy bees were found in the hall. They announced that the bees may have been in residence for some time and had almost certainly built a large nest.
It was located this week just two feet from the top of the chimney and lifted out and lowered to the ground in a single piece.
Gas used to remove the bees has left the honey inedible.
Before the honeycomb is thrown away, local schools are being asked whether they would like to use it for project work.
