DEVIZES Town Council has passed on objections received from local businesses and residents to a plan for a new fried chicken takeaway restaurant in Sidmouth Street.
The council received letters from local people complaining that there were already more than enough fast food outlets in that part of town and they would prefer to see a specialist shop to raise the profile of the street.
They are also concerned at the mess left in the streets by people using the takeaways, often open until early in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays.
Estate agent Atwell Martin has applied for planning permission to change the use of the former electrical goods store to a restaurant serving southern American-style fried chicken.
It was not prepared to divulge the name of its client but said it was not a particularly well-known High Street name.
There are now six fast food outlets in Sidmouth Street, Monday Market Street and New Park Street.
