SOME of the people arrested during the drugs raids in Waiblingen Way, Devizes, two weeks ago will face eviction proceedings.

Sarsen Housing Association, which owns a number of properties in Waiblingen Way, confirmed that it will be taking action against tenants who have breached their tenancy agreements by using its property for illegal or immoral purposes.

Six properties in Waiblingen Way were raided by police on September 19 as part of Operation Ardent, a nine- month operation to tackle the supply and distribution of class A controlled drugs.

A Sarsen spokesman said the association would be establishing who of those arrested were tenants of Sarsen properties.

The spokesman said: "The majority of Sarsen tenants are good, law abiding people who welcome the police action in support of them and the wider community.

"The association will be taking action against any tenants whose properties have been used for drug dealing. This will probably lead to a number of evictions but we believe that this is necessary.

"We would also encourage tenants to report concerns about illegal activities in their area to the police. Information may be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or by dialling 999 in an emergency."

Sarsen is a member of the Kennet Community Safety Partnership and has been working closely with the police and Kennet District Council to reduce crime on estates.

A meeting has been arranged for tenants of flats in Waiblingen Way with Sarsen and the police later this month to talk about restarting the residents' association.

The police were meeting with Sarsen representatives yesterday to discuss ways of helping prevent drug problems in the area in the future.

Nine people have pleaded guilty to drugs offences and seven of them are due to be sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on October 31. Two are due to be sentenced next week, by magistrates in Chippenham and Andover.
