UNDER the heading Prognosis is good for Play, you described how Dr Philips and Dr Stevens had offered to raise money for Green Lane Hospital by cycling all the way from Cornwall and by obtaining sponsorship.

Well, I can now report that they made it safely and bang on time for a most welcome tea of scones, strawberry jam and cream. Unfortunately, the blue lamp escort we planned had to be withdrawn for operational purposes at the last minute, so they cycled up the driveway alone to mighty cheers from those, including the mayor, waiting to greet them.

We, the Friends, the staff and the patients are deeply grateful for their Herculean efforts and would like to thank all those who supported them so generously.

For the record, it is hoped that the money collected will go towards building a dry and stable hard-stand area upon which patients, throughout the year, may work off their excess energies outside in the fresh air without getting very wet and muddy feet. There is no other similar area on the site and all involved believe this will be a most useful and therapeutic addition to the hospital amenities from which future generations of patients in particular will benefit enormously. It is not, however, the case that the area is for children as your article misleadingly suggested.
