WELL done Pewsey Carnival Committee and all who took part to make it such a wonderful show. It am 71 years young and don't know if I am the farthest one to come to your carnival, 141 miles round trip in a day as I don't stop overnight.
The icing on the cake for me was when the lady with your vehicle gave me a key ring (I collect key rings). I don't know if there is a key ring with Pewsey on it as I haven't been lucky enough to visit during shop hours. The nearest I got to the centre was many, many years ago when there was a fairground organ playing outside the cinema and there were wires across the stream with glass jars with candles in them.
I have been coming to the carnival for many years. My earliest memory was that they ran a late train for the carnival in Great Western days.
Also it was a full day, outgoing to Elcot Park Show in the afternoon (between Newbury and Hungerford), the forerunner of the Newbury Show and Pewsey Carnival in the evening.
I would like to ask one question which maybe you or one of your senior readers can answer. Many years ago in the carnivals then there was Tinkies Well. Was there a well? Or who was Tinkey or was it a place in the town?
Thanks for giving me a little bit of your time. I look forward to maybe an answer about Tinkey and my next visit to your carnival.
