ONCE again the Liberal Democrats have exposed their inconsistency and incoherence.

At last week's council meeting, the Liberal Democrats tabled a motion that called for a ban on the sale of marker pens to young people.

The idea of banning anything seems to sit uneasily with the Liberal Democrat philosophy of extending liberty.

It sits even more uneasily with the Liberal Democrats' further demands for various liberal social reforms. For instance, the Liberal Democrats want to relax legislation concerning drugs and pornography.

Can we really take seriously a party that wants to legalise dangerous drugs and pornography but ban marker pens?
