I WRITE to support Ivan E Rickwood's letter 'He's alright, Jack' (EA September 26).
Why should single occupiers only receive a 25 per cent discount on the community charge? Will our local MPs fight for a 50 per cent discount for us?
It is not only country folk who are losing post offices and have a poor bus service. Soon two post offices one at the bus station and the other in Theatre Square will be closed. These were well used and very convenient for the elderly and disabled. The new replacement will not be nearly so accessible.
If the proposed new network of Swindon Town bus routes take effect from December, the area of Ferndale Road will lose bus 10/11 and have a replacement service running only twice an hour and involving the expense of changing buses to alight in Euclid Street, Victoria Road, or Old Town.
Meanwhile, park and ride buses cruise the town empty while the elderly and disabled who have no choice but to use public transport face a bleak winter.
