Dorchester U15s 22 Melksham/Devizes U15s 8
A DEPLETED combined Devizes and Melksham side failed to build on their excellent away win at Keynsham as they fell victim to some dubious refereeing decisions at Dorchester.
Fielding a much-changed team due to injuries, the visitors made a number of promising early breaks.
Dorchester broke away to score against the run of play after debutant full back Simon Ellington was tackled without the ball in sight of the try line.
Dorchester were then awarded a converted try despite having knocked the ball forward in the build up, but a David Finlay penalty brought the visitors back into the game before the break. The hoists added two more tries after the interval, the second another hotly-disputed effort, before Finlay grabbed the combined team's only try.
Chippenham U13s 49 Clifton U13s 12
CHIPPENHAM U13s began their season in style with an impressive victory over Clifton at Allington Field.
Skipper Tom Boreham scored three before the break, with prop Simon Livesey, fly-half Callum Fannin and centre Cameron Brown added the others. Fine tries from winger Brett Neal, scrum-half Tom Burke and lock Adam Deards put the hosts further in front after the interval, before Clifton hit back with two late tries. Boreham added two conversions for Chippenham, who ran out comfortable winners.
CHIPPENHAM'S mini playing section made a flying start to their season with age group sides from U7s to U11s gaining impressive results.
The U7s played their first match under the new tag rules and only a late try from Supermarine denied them victory in a six tries all draw.
Chippenham U8s first team defeated Corsham 4-3, while a second team consisting of a number of newcomers went down by two tries to one at the hands of Supermarine. Daniel Hatch, Jamie Atkin, Toby Hearne and William Waddinton scored the points for the U8s. Two tries from Michael Allies were not enough for Chippenham U9s, who went down 5-2 against Corsham, but a different line-up triumphed 3-1 over Supermarine. Allies again weighed in with a brace, while Ben Cook also scored.
Chippenham U11s defeated Corsham 30-0, with Louis Blackburn scoring two tries. Jacob Emery, Olivia Johnson, Matt Burrows and Jay Pickering also went over for the victors. Johnson scored Chippenham U11s solitary try as they drew 5-5 with Supermarine.
Devizes/Swindon U17s 12 Trowbridge 12
THE combined Devizes and Swindon U17s side recovered from a slow start to share the honours with visitors Trowbridge on Sunday.
The away team drew first blood with an unconverted try, but Devizes/Swindon replied with a try from led to B Clapton in the corner.
Trowbridge moved back in front with their second time and, with the conversion attempt proving successful, held the upper hand going into the break.
Devizes/Swindon kept up the pressure and Clapton scored his second try. The conversion put the hosts on level terms.
