AN HISTORIC building in Trowbridge has been restored to its former glory by a family footwear business.
Built in 1852, the Grade II listed building was originally the town's magistrates' court but fell into disuse 10 years ago.
It has now been re-invented as a shoe store by brothers John and Robert Giles who run the Bath-based company Giles UK.
The site, which will be familiar to many as the Woolpack pub, is now one of eight Mastershoe and Sportshoe outlets in the region.
John Giles was delighted that the historic building had been restored.
"The site's history, allied to its prominence beside Trowbridge's main Shires shopping centre, make it a unique addition to our store range," he said.
He was grateful to Lloyds TSB corporate and in particular its banking relationship manager, Richard Luke, who provides Giles UK with a Banking Solutions service.
"As well as providing the financial means for us to buy our premises as freehold, he took a strong interest in our new location, and was very happy with our decision," said Mr Giles.
Mr Luke said: "We are delighted to have played a part in Giles UK's expansion."
