A GOOD Neighbour scheme needs more volunteer drivers to meet increasing demand for its services.
The Westbury and District Link Scheme provide transport for elderly and disabled people to medical appointments, shopping trips and social visits.
The scheme's annual meeting revealed a 50 per cent rise in calls to its helpline during July. This was due to an increase in the elderly population and greater awareness of the service.
Chairman Ken Woodham said: "Requests for help are being refused because of a lack of drivers.''
Transport to medical and other essential appointments is still being met. But transport to the Grassacres lunch club, which the scheme had provided for several years, has been cancelled.
Mr Woodham said: ''Volunteers can give as much or as little time as they wish. An allowance will be available to cover expenses.
Please call the helpline on (01373) 859669 or Caroline Los on (01373) 822583.
