DEVELOPER Braemon Holdings has submitted plans to create a 15-acre mixed development near the railway in Bath Road, Melksham.

The land was formerly owned by Avon Rubber and British Rail.

The scheme will involve flood alleviation measures to help the site and also the existing residential area at Roundponds.

Last year a £5m scheme to relocate the regional headquarters for the National Trust failed to get beyond the planning process and the organisation decided to look at Swindon instead.

The development plans include provision of new channelling and culverts to divert water after consultation with the Environment Agency.

The scheme went on display to the public at the Falcon Interiors Showroom at Roundponds on Tuesday and Wednesday, where consultants for the development were present to talk to residents.

In addition to flooding concerns the area has been a dumping ground for scrap cars.

Environmental health officers have also been called in to deal with road and cement dust from the site.
