I WOULD like to appeal to any of your readers who are tetraplegic, or have a family member or friend who is tetraplegic, that is, severely paralysed following damage to the spinal chord.
Many of them will know of the work of REGAIN the only organisation in the UK that supports men and women who become tetraplegic as a result of a sporting injury.
The charity purchases equipment to help them lead more independent lives ranging from electric wheelchairs and computer equipment to lightweight sports wheelchairs so they can enjoy sport again.
Through the pages of your newspaper we would very much like to ask them to contact REGAIN if they are in need of equipment and also to support a unique integrated cycle ride for both disabled and able-bodied cyclists in Kenya to help raise funds to buy more equipment for tetraplegic men and women in town across Britain.
There will be tetraplegic hand cyclists and the charity's chairman Lord Ivar Mountbatten amongst the riders cycling 400 kms from the slopes of Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria next June.
If any readers would like to join the challenge or nominate and support a disabled person to take part we would be very keen to hear from them.
For further information about The Africa Bike Ride in Kenya in aid of REGAIN and to request further information about the charity's work contact me on (01590) 612227.
ANN FRAMPTON,
On behalf of REGAIN,
Action for Charity.
