CROP CIRCLE creators have revealed their secrets on a new video.

The film, Circle Makers, produced by former circle maker Matthew Williams, features 11 experts being interviewed on camera, talking about their experiences.

They have produced art all over the country, including Wiltshire.

Matthew, 30, who lives in Devizes, achieved fame last year after becoming the first person in the country to be arrested for creating crop circles in fields.

He explained: "I felt I needed to produce this video. There is a need to show that humans do produce these circles and not alien beings. But strange things do happen when these circles are being made, like balls of light and strange figures in fields and other phenomena that cannot be explained away. I want the public to sit down and see what these people are like selflessly creating the circles for people to enjoy."

Among the interviewees is Doug Bower, who was one of the first people to create the circles. In his interview he talks about how much press attention the circles receive, and how their creators risk being prosecuted for trespassing or criminal damage.

He said he started out simply because he was bored in the evening. Others on the tape were so intrigued that they had a go and became hooked. Modern technology is now effectively being used to design their circles, and the internet is used to spread ideas.

Many of the contributors talk about how seriously people take the creations, and all are adamant that, although there is no alien involvement, things do happen in the dead of night when the makers are hard at work.

Matthew, who is a video editor by profession, said: "I have always had an interest in UFOs and the paranormal so I went to find out more and until last year I had made around 200 circles since 1994. I have always aimed to test the so-called 'circle' experts.

"My favourite design, a basket, featured a weaving effect. The experts said it was impossible to create, but I proved them wrong.

"Basically this documentary is the de facto insight into the world of circle makers. Nothing like this has been seen before in-depth talks with the makers and footage of them at work using night vision camera. The video is unique."

Crop circles have been appearing across Wiltshire for decades and they have attracted tourists from across the world.

This year's Hollywood hit film, Signs, stars Mel Gibson as a farmer who discovers crop circles apparently being created by aliens.

Circle Makers is priced £20 and is available by sending a cheque, payable to Underground Video, to Underground Video, 38a Avondale Gardens, Hounslow Heath, Middlesex, TW4 5EU.
