CHILDREN at Longmeadow Primary School, Trowbridge were given a taste of acting in a two-day drama workshop.

As part of their history project on Tudors, the Moonraker theatre company helped 60 children aged six to nine put on a performance about prominent people from the era.

At the end of the workshop, pupils dressed as Sir Francis Drake and Elizabeth I read lines to an audience of teachers and parents. There were also some singing and dancing routines. A musician and director from the theatre company were on hand for behind the scenes tuition.

Headteacher Maria Vinney said: "The two days helped raise the children's self-esteem and confidence. Because of the level of interest, the theatre group has offered to set up a regular after school acting club."

Pupils will be able to use their new skills in the school's Christmas play, Hosanna Rock, a modern version of the nativity play.
