I find it staggering that, in his letter of September 27, Michael Willis MP has the audacity to state that it was primarily due to his efforts that funding was secured for the Northern Sector campus.
In a town that is woefully short of comprehensive schools and with housing developments rampant, does he seriously expect us to believe that 4-5,000 houses are going to be built without any schooling infrastructure?
If so, does this not once again highlight how poorly the long standing Labour Council in this town has performed? To allow developers to develop without any provision for schooling and then have to rely on your MP to be the prime mover is amazing.
Having spoken to Kevin Small on the subject of schooling in the Northern/Western Sector of the town, he would have us all believe that there are two new comprehensive schools being built in this area.
If my memory is correct, Kevin Small was Swindon's Education spokesman on the Wilts County Council, then became chair of Education on Swindon Council, more recently deputy to Sue Bates and now Leader of Swindon Council. My, how we have progressed as a council.
I recall that Councillor Peter Brown in a letter some months ago at least had the decency to write and admit that Labour did not know what they had taken on when becoming a unitary authority.
