PUPILS from Hardenhuish School in Chippenham have invented names for roads on an industrial park.

Sixty youngsters from the school took part in a competition run by The Skelton Group, which owns the park.

The pupils were asked to come up with new road names reflecting the park's history and its future as a centre of employment with an emphasis on technology.

The roads have been named Westinghouse Way, recognising the firm's link with the town and the railway, Galileo Drive and Jubilee Road, for the Queen's Golden Jubilee year.

There were 19 winners, and each receives a book token. The school has been presented with a laptop computer for the technology department.

Teacher Dave Huxtable said: "It is great these new names will be part of Chippenham's history, and the pupils will benefit from the knowledge that their chosen names will be around for a long time."

The new names now need the approval of North Wiltshire District Council and the new signs could be in place by November.
