A WOMAN today told of her desperate wish for her husband to come out of his coma and smile once again.

Pauline Marshall's husband Derek, 44, was a pedestrian when he was struck by a car and suffered serious head injuries.

He is now at Princess Margaret Hospital after undergoing brain surgery at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital.

Mrs Marshall said her husband's colleagues at SDC in South Marston are giving her a lift to hospital every day as she does not drive.

She said: "Everyone has been so wonderful and I can't thank them enough, but what I want now is to have my husband back.

"I spend most of my time at his bedside, hoping and praying that he will wake up and give me one of his lovely smiles."

The accident happened just before midnight on Saturday, September 21, when Mr Marshall was struck by a blue Renault Clio on the A4311 Cirencester Way, near the roundabout with Gipsy Lane, Swindon.

The Marshalls have a 15-year-old daughter, Samantha, and two sons, Adam, six, and Todd, 14.

Mrs Marshall said: "My husband is a bubbly, caring man, but two weeks on is still unconscious. He was on his way home from a colleague's wedding reception at the Plessey Sports and Social Club when he was hit by a car.

"This accident has turned our lives upside down and has affected the children badly."

The driver of the Renault Clio stopped at the scene but police are keen to trace any independent witnesses who could shed light on events leading up to the accident.

Police spokeswoman Alvina Kumar said: "Despite appeals for information no-one has come forward. Someone must have seen or heard something that night and we would urge any driver or pedestrian who was in the area at the time to contact us with information.

Witnesses are asked to call PC Glenn Powell or Sergeant Mark Levitt from Swindon Traffic Police on 528111.
