I AM in full agreement with Phil Beaumont (Letters October 2) expressing his disgust of the term bed blocking used to describe the people who will be affected by delayed discharge from the new GWH.
I understand the term used at Princess Margaret Hospital is "in transit'' equally as disturbing.
I was visiting PMH recently and met a charming lady, aged 65 plus years young, who was in transit utilising a bed and waiting to be moved into a care home.
She has been in this situation, at PMH, for the past twelve weeks. Her care home place has been ready for her for some time, yet thanks to the bureaucracy involved and the permissions/agreements required by the various services involved, she has to suffer the indignity, loss of individuality and the feeling that she is taking up valuable bed space.
Regretfully, there must be others similarly affected.
Such circumstances should never happen. It is, I feel, unnecessary and unwarranted. Surely the system could work faster this day and age.
Yet another issue that must be given priority and positive action.
