RECENTLY one of your readers wanted to know what I had done as an MP for education funding in Swindon.
They would want to know that I am a member of the F40 Group in Parliament which campaigns for the 40 worst funded education authorities which includes Swindon.
I have written many letters to Ministers on this issue so that they are aware of Swindon's views.
I have had meetings with Education Ministers and raised the issue of education funding with the Prime Minister at Prime Minister's Question time.
I recently had a telephone conference debate with teachers and parents in Swindon with an Education Minister and again we pushed the issue of funding.
I have also recently written to every school in the constituency to tell them about the options for education funding in the future and urging them to push the case for Swindon.
My colleague Michael Wills MP similarly pushes these issues on behalf of his constituents.
Because of the pressure of Swindon MPs and the F40 Group we have actually had millions of pounds of additional grants to the town and overall spending per pupil is up by more than £500 per pupil per year. We are also seeing more investment in school buildings than we ever saw under the Tories.
It is these results that distinguish active MPs from previous Tory inactive ones.
Julia Drown
Labour MP for South Swindon
