SWINDON Town Ladies had their biggest win of the season in the South West Combination League when they beat Newton Abbot 5-2 in a game played at Aldbourne.

Newton Abbot kicked off but after four minutes the Town took the lead. Kim Reeves headed clear a Newton Abbot corner to Michelle Rich, who played the ball over the visitors defence for Lucy Bailey to run clear and score.

The Town looked to build on their lead and both Rich and Bailey went close. The Abbots began to get into the game and in the 18th minute drew level when Karen Smith's low shot crept into the net.

The visitors almost took the lead just after when Nicky Battishall played a neat ball through to Kirsty Caunter, but her shot was wide of the Town's post.

The Town were unable to open up the Abbots defence that was well drilled by centre back Helen Morse. In the 35th minute Newton Abbot took the lead when Hannah Gomondson crossed from the left and Caunter turned the ball into the net.

The visitors were having the better of the play and Karen Buck crossed from the left but Smith's header struck the Town's crossbar.

Reeves opened up the Abbots defence to put Bailey clear but Helen Morse cleared with a strong challenge.

Within seven minutes of the restart the Town were level. Reeves played Rich into space and the Town's forward tucked the ball low into the net.

Three minutes later the Town were in front. Pam Ashman found Rich in a good position, and she lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper.

Newton Abbot struck back and Catherine Wright tried two long shots, the first flew wide and the second bounced to safety off the Town's crossbar.

In the 64th minute the Town scored a fourth. Julie Selway made ground down the Town's left before crossing to Bailey, who made no mistake from ten yards.

In the 72nd minute Bailey completed her hat-trick when she struck the ball into the far corner of the net after good work between Julie Selway and Ashman. Buck tried a long shot but Town keeper Wendy Davies caught the ball cleanly.

Rich forced Abbot's keeper Natalie Dipper to make a good save but as the ball ran loose Bailey followed up, but the keeper pushed her shot out for a corner.
