CHIPPENHAM 2nds managed one of their most impressive wins of the season so far as they defeated their Clifton counterparts 22-15 at Allington Field.
The hosts made a good start as fly-half Paul Jenkins fed a long pass out to centre Ben Salisbury who scored wide out.
Then Jenkins himself side-stepped through the defence and ran in a try from 20 metres.
Clifton came back and the home defence couldn't prevent a brilliant solo effort from the Clifton centre after Salisbury had run 30 metres to score Chippenham's third.
Chippenham prop Graham Treen was sin-binned for alleged stamping early in the second half and, during this period, Clifton scored a second try bringing the score to 15-10.
Once Treen returned, Chippenham took control again, scoring a fourth try, winger John Billett sending centre John Lawrence under the posts, with the conversion kicked by Salisbury.
Late on, another Chippenham player, skipper Kenny Brown was sin-binned for a professional foul and Clifton were awarded a penalty try to give the hosts some anxious final moments.
Team: Schraider, Spence, Treen, Shuker, Watkins, King, Davies, Brown(capt), Bowker, Fitzwater, Squires, Salisbury, Lawrence, Billet, Gray. Subs: Greenwood, Wells, Cook, Dyer
CHIPPENHAM 3rds last-minute fixture change saw them take on Clifton Rats at Allington Field, but they were beaten 48-19.
Chippenham started well, Alun Jones cleaning up a loose ball, fed it to Lynton Hackett who burst through to score, Clifford converting.
But Clifton worked their way back scoring four tries before the half-time whistle.
Their larger and bigger pack drew the Chippenham forwards and left holes to be exploited.
In the second half, the visitors capitalised on a couple of errors to score two more tries.
Chippenham's backs were rewarded with a Ben Chamberlain scored before a superb move releasesd Anthony Malcolm to step inside the full-back and sprint 50 yards under the posts. Clifford converted.
In the dying minutes of the game, Clifton scored a further two tries.
