MOST people make do with receiving china for their 20th wedding anniversary but Jane Pitcher is travelling there. Jane, 46, from Brinkworth, plans to trek part of the Great Wall of China to celebrate the occasion, and also to help Breast Cancer Care.

She said: "My husband, Malcolm, normally forgets our anniversary because he is so busy. So I decided to do something productive on my own.

"Seven years ago I found a lump in my breast. Fortunately it was a false alarm. But it reminded me that cancer can affect anyone."

Jane, a customer service manager, needs to raise more than £2,000 to finance the trip, taking place next April, and has already embarked on a hectic schedule of fundraising.

The trip will see Jane tackling rough terrain, covering around 90km over six days. She will stay in hostels and carry her luggage in a backpack.

Starting this month, Jane is running pay-as-you-go aerobics sessions in Brinkworth Village Hall. She is also throwing a Body Shop pampering party and raffle at her home on Monday. A women's makeover night and talent show are in the pipeline.

Malcolm, 50, hopes to meet his intrepid wife at the end of her adventure.
