A NEW women's football team is looking for sponsors to give them the boot 16 pairs of boots to be precise.
The women, who are all mental health service users, was launched two weeks ago by former Blackburn Rovers player Steve Holmes.
Mr Holmes, 31, who battled with schizophrenia following a leg injury which prevented him from playing, has already set up a football team for men recovering from mental health problems.
And having seen the benefits, he is keen to give women the same opportunities.
He said: "In some ways it is a form of therapy. I think that taking exercise and being able to get involved in something social like this can really help people who are recovering from mental health problems.
"At the moment we have about seven team members who came to our training session on Monday night at the Croft Sports Centre, and we are keen to recruit more."
Team member, Melissa Holmes, said: "It is good to be doing something different. I have never had any formal football training before. I enjoy getting into shape and it is good to socialise with other people."
Fellow player Steph Perry said: "It is a good way to work out any frustrations. Steve is a great coach."
The team is appealing for sponsors to provide boots and shin pads.
Anyone able to help should contact Steve on 07748 612584.
