I WOULD like to thank both J Blake and T Reynolds for their recent letters. I believe that the most people in Swindon would support the sentiments expressed with regard to Councillor Jim D'Avila's 'moral duty' to accept more asylum seekers.
You would expect Councillor Jim D'Avila's first priority to be to the people of Swindon and to trying to bridge the deficit caused through bad management and providing the facilities and services that a town such as Swindon need. No, forget all that. Let's make matters even worse.
Even fellow councillors Mavis Childs and Mike Bawden cannot justify this reasoning and can see that this will only stretch the resources of the town even further. Councillor D'Avila's dictatorial attitude typifies the council, too concerned with other matters rather than what they should be doing for our town.
One key issue with this and the other council debacles is that these councillors are there to administer and run the town on behalf of us, the council taxpayers. I believe that they have become deluded into thinking that they are there to put into practice things from their own private agenda.
Bring on that next election and let's show them who really runs the show!
