WHAT a wonderful and informative article on the Swindon Male Voice Choir (Evening Advertiser, October 5). It was good to see the work of the choir so well reported and I hope the article leads to an increase in the ranks of Swindon's premier male voice choir.

On a slightly different note, your reporter may well be a karaoke singer of note but a film buff and historian he is not.

His memories of the film Zulu suggest that he wasn't taking too much notice in between the excellent action sequences. Dominic refers to "the remnants of the embattled Royal Engineers launching into Bread of Heaven". Having seen the film many times I regret I must have missed this event.

The battle of Rorke's Drift (January 22-23, 1879) on which the film was based, involved men of B Company 2 Battalion 24 Regt of foot (the Warwickshires) there were a few Royal Engineers under the command of the senior officer Lt John Chard.

The song which was sung in the film, led by Ivor Immanuel, was not Bread of Heaven but another rousing Welsh piece entitled Men of Harlech.
