CHIPPENHAM'S town centre supermarket Somerfield has been relaunched this week after undergoing a £500,000 facelift.

The makeover included a complete redecoration, with extra lighting and new colours to give the store a modern appearance.

Somerfield will now have a new range of non-food products, such as electrical goods, clothes, soft furnishings, toys, DIY and kitchenware.

The store will also provide extra ranges of fresh food, with a larger selection of dairy products and some extra express tills.

The new-look supermarket will also offer a wider range of sandwiches and ready meals from the in-store bakery.

Store manager Eddie McCullar said: "We are very pleased with our new look store and I am confident that our customers will be delighted with the improvements."

He said Somerfield aimed to be the best local food store.

"We want to let everyone know about our quality food and wine and make shopping easier for everyone. And we will continue to give shoppers excellent value across their entire weekly shop," he said.

The refurbishment was part of a £75 million overhaul of Somerfield stores nationwide, and it has created ten new jobs in the town. Somerfield will be improving 200 of its 590 supermarkets in the next 12 months. The Chippenham store has remained open during the month-long improvement.
