FLY-HALF Jon Spillane scored twice as Wootton Bassett 2nd downed their Frome counterparts 15-3 at Stoneover Lane.

Bassett opened the scoring after 15 minutes when superbly won ruck ball was spun wide through the backs to set winger Sean Dunham clear for a sprint to the corner.

A period of excellent rugby from the hosts followed, with hooker Ted Edwards to the fore.

But the Frome defence stood firm and stopped the home side's two crash centres Hamish Gardiner and John Dingle from adding to the score.

Ten minutes from the interval though, bulky fly-half Jon Spillane crashed through three tackles to dive over and put Bassett 10-0 up at half-time.

The second half carried on in the same vein, with Bassett making all the running.

And it was Spillane again who scored midway through the period with another thundering run into the centre of the Frome defence resulting in him barging over.

For the remainder of the match, both sides' defences stood firm, but Frome were awarded a penalty five minutes from the end which they kicked.
