THE Great Western Hospital's radiology department was visited by South Swindon MP Julia Drown, who was keen to see improvements to the department since it moved to the new hospital from Princess Margaret Hospital.
Director of the department Dr Alf Troughton said: "We were pleased to be able to show the various improvements that have been made to the department."
He explained that digital technology meant an end to photographic film and allowed different departments of the hospital to view x-ray images simultaneously, dramatically increasing the efficiency of the department and helping to cut waiting times for appointments.
He added that recruitment issues had also been resolved, because staff are keen to work in the new hospital.
Julia Drown said: "Looking at this department is a real tonic for those who might think that GWH is no better than PMH.
"I am very optimistic about the future of the department."
