COMMUNICATIONS giant Motorola plans to set a Swindon Comic Relief record by creating the largest red nose in the town.

Taking a tip from various Olympic Games opening ceremonies and mass stadium rallies, hundreds of staff will hold large red cards above their heads in order to accomplish the feat.

The size of the nose they plan has yet to be revealed but Motorola has about 1,000 workers on site on any given day, and all are to be asked to contribute as much as possible to "buy" their cards.

Company spokeswoman Fiona Hickie explained: "At 11am on Comic Relief Day Friday, March 14 all the staff at Motorola's Groundwell plant will assemble outside the building.

"They will stand in a circle, marked in the grounds, holding pieces of red card above their heads."

The aim is to raise as much money as possible for Comic Relief, which aids some of the world's poorest communities. Local printing firm Cats Solutions has agreed to supply the card, while the plant's caterer, Eurest, says it will provide coffee and biscuits for the participants.
