Chippenham Under 18s have been crowned champions of the Dorset & Wilts Under 18 Merit Table but there were few celebrations at Allington Field at the weekend.

The team were due to play Bournemouth on Sunday where a win would have meant that they remained undefeated throughout the season.

But third-placed Bournemouth cancelled the fixture because they were unable to raise a team through injury. They forfeited the match and the points, giving the title to Chippenham.

But the decision to cancel angered Chippenham coach Rob Alford.

He said: "I found it difficult to accept their reasons.

"Bournemouth are one of the biggest clubs in the area and have a large junior playing section like Chippenham. I am sure that they could, if they wanted to, have put out a team for Sunday's match.''

Alford added: "The real losers in this are our players, who have been denied the opportunity to celebrate winning the league.

"Had we known that Bournemouth were not going to honour the fixture, the victory against Wootton Bassett last week would have secured the title for us and the players would have received the trophy in the correct manner.

"As it is Bournemouth's decision not to play has left everything, including the players, a bit flat.''

Chippenham face Swanage & Wareham away in the quarter finals of the Dorset & Wilts Cup this Sunday.

A SOLITARY try from Jason Deamer handed Chippenham Under 15 victory over a combined Melksham/Devizes outfit in the Wiltshire Cup.

There was little to choose between the two teams, but Deamer's first-half score settled it, Fraser Brown adding the conversion.

Team: A Bowyer, N Quarrel, M Dick, W North, J Boddington (capt), M Bye, M Smith, M Harvey, J Goodenough, J Whitehead, R Fannin, S Johnstone, C Spencer, L Surry, F Brown, M Clarke, A Hurcombe, M Baptiste, J Deamer, M Sparrow.

Chippenham Under 13s travelled to Basingstoke for a friendly and left their Hampshire hosts reeling from a half-century blast.

They put on a quite brilliant exhibition of open, flowing attacking rugby, running in 10 unanswered tries.

The try scorers in the 50-0 romp included Matt Tatara, Mike Boddington and Tristian Spencer, who all grabbed two apiece.

The other scorers were Eddie Best, Ollie Morris Nick Bendry and team captain Tom Boreham.
