A RECYCLING scheme set up to help people on benefits furnish their homes has received a £1,000 boost from the Chippenham Lions.
The charity Waste Not Want Not was set up by the Citizens Advice Bureau, Social Services, North Wiltshire District Council and Westlea Housing Association to meet the need for affordable household goods for people on means tested benefits.
The charity organises collections of donated goods and, after the items are safety checked, they are sold at its shop in Hungerdown Lane at a low price that just covers costs.
Project manager Phil Reade said: "It is going very well. The quality of donations is excellent and we're very busy in the shop."
He said the charity was extremely grateful to receive the £1,000 cheque from the Lions on Tuesday.
Anyone wishing to donate goods or volunteer to help can contact Waste Not Want Not on (01249) 447140.
