South Wilts have to wait
SOUTH Wilts Cricket Club's under 16s are now locked in a two-horse race with Basingstoke & North Hants for the NatWest Hampshire Indoor Cricket Championship at the Rose Bowl.
The title will be decided on Sunday week when Basingstoke must beat third-placed Bournemouth to take the title. If they fail, the crown will go to the Salisbury club - providing they win their final game with Ventnor.
Last week's key clash between the two challengers could hardly have been closer.
Basingstoke claimed a one-wicket success with the winning runs coming off a wide from the final ball.
With openers Mitchell Stokes, 42 not out, and Lee Towey, 27, going well, Basingstoke looked set to cruise past South Wilts' 127-3. But when the middle order wickets fell, the youngsters lost their way. But a frantic finish saw Basingstoke scrape home.
James Hayward had earlier stolen the show against Havant with an un-defeated 56 in his side's 151-5. He then took 3-21 as Havant exited for 135.
