MEMBERS of Pewsey Vale Amateur Dramatic Society have come away from the Swindon One Act Play festival with a clutch of awards and commendations.

They were the last of about a dozen drama groups to take part in their section at the festival, held at the weekend.

Devizes Road Arts Centre resounded to their cheers of delight at picking up two major awards and nearly getting two others.

The PVADS' cast of seven put on the comedy A Night To Remember produced and directed by Martin Clifton.

Andy Vowles was awarded the cup for the best actor in a supporting role and the society won the Matthew Herring Shield for the best stage set.

Mr Clifton, of West Grafton, not only directed and produced the play but also designed and built the stage set largely single-handed.

Under the festival rules, the set had to be designed so that it could be assembled in less than ten minutes and dissembled in five.

Two more members of the Pewsey cast, Darren Little and Corinna Cuff, had been nominated for awards but narrowly missed out.

Mr Clifton said: "This was the second time we had taken part in the Swindon one act festival and we were delighted with the outcome."

PVADS had its first auditions last night for parts for its spring production, due to take place in May.
