MIDFIELDER JP Mills was left disappointed after attending Premiership exit trials at Lilleshall last week.

The 19-year-old former Southampton youngster was in line for his first Bluebirds start at Hednesford last week after scoring twice in the 2-1 win over Hinckley United on February 22.

Mills harbours hopes of a return to the professional game and instead decided to head for the trials, arranged for players recently released by Premiership clubs.

But he was given little chance to impress in front of more than 50 scouts in the final trial match on Wednesday and also lost his place in the Chippenham side as the Bluebirds produced their best performance of the season at Hednesford.

Said Mills: "I don't know how I got on yet and Lilleshall will send letters to all those who clubs are interested in towards the end of this week.

"It was a bit of a waste of time, to be honest. I was there for three days, missed the chance to start for Chippenham, and only played 45 minutes of the trial match because there were too many midfielders.

"What you have to remember is that, in these games, all of the players are trying to impress so they might not pass to you when normally they would.

"I'm not expecting anything, although I might get one or two offers asking if I want to go training with clubs."

Mills' best chance of a contract with a professional club might come at Bristol Rovers, although he has yet to play in a reserve game there.

He said: "I'm still training with them, but I do need to play a reserve game because it is pointless just going there to train.

"I've got to make a decision on my future, really. Do I play part-time for a while and get myself a qualification, or do I try to go straight back into professional football?"

Mills returned to the Bluebirds bench for the draw at Worcester and is itching for another chance to shine following his heroics at Hinckley.

He said: "I was very upset to be left out on Saturday, but the boys did well on Monday night.

"I was expecting at least 15 minutes, but I didn't get on. I had a chat with Tommy afterwards and he said my time would come again. It better had, and soon."
