MALMESBURY and Crudwell Brownies are looking for volunteers to become new Brown Owls.

The present leaders are standing down after ten years.

Malmesbury Brown Owl Beryl Wheeler is reaching retirement age in the next few years and Crudwell Brown Owl Meryl Walker said she was finding it increasingly hard to devote time to the job because of other commitments.

She is also Malmesbury District Commissioner for the Brownies and said combining this role and Brown Owl as well as working in Crudwell Post Office was becoming too much.

She added she had enjoyed her time as Brown Owl and anybody who volunteered for the position was sure to have a good time.

"We have a very good enthusiastic group of children at the Brownies," she said.

"It is great fun being involved and seeing the children develop. Giving them the opportunity to shine is very rewarding; it also gives the leaders the chance to be children again."

Both groups have a full complement of girls from ages seven to ten who meet once weekly to play games and learn new skills.

Ms Walker said that now was the perfect time for some younger blood to come in and gain from the experience.

"Being a leader is a great opportunity for someone in child care or who wants to get into child care to gain experience of working with children. It also looks great on the CV," she said.
