BIDDESTONE Social Club have stepped up their bid for promotion from the Division Two of the Vanitec Computers sponsored Chippenham League.

With the top of the table clash between leaders Black Horse and second placed Semington Rovers postponed because Rovers were unable to raise 11 fit men, the Biddestone side took full advantage to snatch second spot behind the Horse.

Biddestone's run of 10 games without defeat has given them a realistic chance of claiming a top two finish and up against a much improved Pig and Whistle United side Biddestone turned in a poor performance compared to their recent displays but still claimed an important win with a 4-1 score line.

James Tindell scored twice before Aaron Richardson bagged his first goal of the season to half the deficit for United in the 62nd minute. Neil Harlock scored on 79 minutes to restore Biddestone's two-goal cushion before Tindell completed his first hat trick for the club.

North Star A picked up a point a 1-1 draw with Wingfield. Nick Fielding scored for the Star.

Spencer Sports fell behind in their game with Sutton Benger after only 15 minutes, when Mark Richardson's measured long ball was picked up by Nick Slade to score his 14th goal of the season, but the Sports hit back to record a 3-1 win.

Steve Cleverly levelled in the dying moments of the first period when his shot from 18 yards went in off the bar.

The Sports raised their game in the second half and when Brad Jenkins tripped a forward in the area the penalty was smashed home by John Knight.

With 20 minutes remaining Royston Aust made his only positive run forward through the Benger midfield and from the ensuing chaos, Brad Jenkins was again unlucky when in an attempt to clear the ball he poked it into his own net to seal the Sports' win.

Farmhouse FC claimed the result of the day as they ended Christian Malford's nine-match unbeaten run. Farmhouse ran out convincing 5-1 winners that saw them complete a league double over Malford, whose consolation goal came from Ian Ramsey.

PERCY'S FC look to have taken a stranglehold on the race for the following their 5-3 victory over Bradford News.

Percy's were 5-0 to the good before the Newsmen hit back with three goals in the final 20 minutes.

Neil Shardlow headed Percy's in front and Dave Kilmurray lobbed home the second goal. Frank Rogers (2) and then Luke Chapman with a superb solo strike made the game look safe only for Charlie Powell to crash home a stunning volley despite the best efforts of Percy's goalkeeper Craig Chaplin.

Two further goals from Powell set up a tense finish with the Corsham side hanging on at the end.

Pre-season favourites Box Rovers have all but thrown away their chances of another title away after falling for a second consecutive week to Malmesbury Victoria.

Rovers, who could only field 10 men, fell behind to Richard Skull's opener, but goals from Wayne Munday, James Lye and Jamie Harrison put them 3-1 ahead before Malmesbury hit back with four of their own which included a hat-trick from Andy Wicks and one from Anthony Vizard.

All Cannings A dropped a vital point in a 2-2 draw with strugglers Winsley.

Carl Harfield's opener for Winsley was cancelled out by Nick Oram and when Martin Baker made it 2-1 to Cannings it looked as though Winsley were on their way to their 12th defeat of the season. But it was no to be as the villagers hit back to claim a draw when Chris Henry's inswinging corner was punched out by Cannings goalkeeper Danny Appleton, but the ball cannoned back into goal off defender Nick Oram.

Hullavington Village extended their unbeaten run to six matches when they defeated Dog and Fox Ashley 2-1, with goals from Phil Garland and Darren Legg.

Division One

LEADERS West Lavington extended their lead at the top to seven points with a 3-2 victory over West End Wanderers.

Lavington were gifted the lead by Wanderers' goalkeeper Craig Woodruff whose attempt to clear the ball ended up in his own net.

John Price levelled before the interval only for Lee Sanders to put the frontrunners back in command. Price dragged the Wanderers level again with his second goal, but Simon Drewitt sealed Lavington's win.

First goals of the season for Andy Long and Andy Moules helped Colerne FC to defeat an out of sorts Atworth United side 3-0. Steve Tarren completed the scoring from the penalty spot.

Simon Vowden and Daylan Gleed also found the mark for the first time this term as their efforts, added to Simon Hillier's strike, led Maud Heath Sports to a 3-1 victory over Gladstone Liberal Club, whose consolation goal came from Luke Stoneham.

Chippenham Police saw their hopes of claiming another two points dashed as work commitments forced the postponement of their game with The George Lacock.

Division Three

AFTER two draws on the trot, Southwick Sports recaptured the winning formula after denying the youngsters of Rowde a deserved point.

Southwick left it late before sealing a 2-1 win as they took their unbeaten run to nine games. Gareth Colebrook was on the mark for Southwick after only five minutes but when Jamie Mullins equalised an upset was on the cards, but it was not to be as Southwick won the game at the death when Jamie Moth crashed home the winner in the 89th minute.

The last time Corsham Park Rangers and Roadrunners FC met the game was an ill-tempered affair that saw Roadrunners finish the game with nine men and the score tied at 6-6.

The reverse fixture was played in much friendlier fashion, with referee Derek Turner having a great game in the middle and Rangers winning 5-2. Kelvin Stewart (3), Paul Smith and Mark Wolf were on target for Rangers who at one stage in the game were locked at 2-2 after Andy Zuk's double had tied the score.

AFC Unicorn were 2-0 down to Sir Audley's Arms at the break but hit back to share the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Blue Circle Saints and Somerford FC were involved in a seven-goal thriller that saw the Saints triumph 4-3. Goals from Steve Martin, Richard Frankcom and Martin Hemmings were cancelled out by Gavin Klukowski, John Goad and Jason Martin. After Klukowski had been sent off, the 10 men of Somerford were unable to hang as Russell Dyer hit the Saints' last gasp winner.

Division Four

FOUR Seasons almost came unstuck against Old Road Tavern who were just four minutes away from claiming an unlikely point.

Steve Hunt put the Seasons ahead, but they were unable to hold onto the advantage and when Andy Crayford drew the Tavern level one of the surprise results of the season was on the cards.

But the Tavern were unable to hold onto their point and suffered a 2-1 loss when Gary Banks' shot was deflected home in the 86th minute.

Goals from Andy Strange and Kez Russell were not enough to save KSM from losing out against Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club who coasted to a 7-2 win.

Second placed Westbury Rangers B dropped a vital point in their hunt for promotion as they drew 1-1 with All Cannings B, whose goal came from Sam Patton.

Before the game both teams observed a minute's silence for the late Robbie Bowden who was a former Rangers' player before having a spell as the B team manager.

Robbie had been linked to Rangers in one way or another since 1975.

Bradstone Rovers and Parsons Nose battled out a 2-2 stalemate. Rovers overcame a two-goal deficit to claim their point with Alan Eades' brace cancelling out strikes from Wayne Bailey and Simon Wheeler.

Richard Siekiera, Peter Huntley and Darren Brown were among the goals for Potterne FC who defeated the Plough 3-0

In recent weeks White Horse FC have seen their chances of an automatic promotion spot reduced and after their latest 3-2 defeat against North Star B they have all but evaporated.

Andy Cahill and Paul Phelps hit the Horse's goals with Shaun King (2) and Terry Cox scoring for the Star.
