DEVIZES TOWN: STRIKER Neil Dix was given little chance to continue his recent scoring spree as Devizes bowed out of the FA Vase with barely a whimper.

Dix and strike partner Paul Hunt were forced to live off scraps in the final third and Maldon took control of the midfield battle.

He said: "We're gutted. The defence did well and the midfield worked hard, but nothing went for us on the day. We had nothing coming up to our feet up front and never had any options.

"Maldon had some quality players in midfield and had a lot of experience. We wish them all the best, although it is difficult to say if they'll get to the final because we don't know how good the other sides left in are."

Devizes borrowed Hunt from Swindon Supermarine to add some experience to the side, and Dix felt the ex-Forest Green striker had performed well.

He said: "He is a great player and holds the ball up really well. I thought he did well. I don't really mind who I play up front with, as long as I can win the headers and they can get in behind me."

Despite Saturday's poor display, Dix feels he and his team mates can be proud of their achievements in the Vase this season. He said: "We've had a great run, one of the best the club has ever had. We've just got to get our heads up. We'll just look towards getting a good result on Saturday."
