THREE members of Devizes Round Table have appeared before Swindon Crown Court charged with offences related to thefts from a stonemason.

Stephen Johnstone, Vernon Guerri-Buckland and James Bodman all denied a series of charges in connection with Holley Hextall Associates, in Bromham.

Johnstone, 41, of Escourt Crescent, Devizes, pleaded not guilty to ten counts of theft from the yard where he used to be manager.

Included in the items he is alleged to have taken were £360 and £810 in cash, York stone, hundreds of pounds worth of paving stones, stone pediments, a granite worktop worth £2,800 and tiles.

Guerri-Buckland, 42, of Parkfields, Devizes, pleaded not guilty to two counts of theft with Johnstone.

Bodman, 39, of Windermere Road, Worton, pleaded not guilty to three charges of handling a stolen granite worktop, paving stones and tiles.

Also appearing in court was Christopher Potter, 29, of Isbury Road, Marlborough, who admitted handling stolen paving stones between January 1 and June 21 last year.

Paul Rogers, 35, of Kennilworth Gardens, Melksham, admitted handling £60 stolen from the yard and assisting another offender. He also pleaded guilty to handling stolen paving stones between January 1 and June 21 last year, but denied handling a further £20 of stolen money and two pieces of York stone.

Wayne Curtis, 22, of Hatfields, Marden, who also worked at the yard, admitted to two charges of theft between January 1 and June 21. He pleaded not guilty to stealing stone pillars, seats and sets as well as paving stones during the same period.

The case was adjourned. Those entering not guilty pleas are to stand trial by jury later in the year. All six were released on unconditional bail.
