ALDBOURNE Band, which has delighted music lovers for more than 100 years, has cut its first CD.
And, appropriately, the band has called the CD after the village from it takes its name.
Penney Morgan has sponsored the cost of recording the CD, in honour of her late mother Haidee Shields.
Mrs Shields' father, Albert Stacey, was bandmaster at Aldbourne at the time of World War One.
Even in his days the band was playing at top national level and competed in festivals around the country. Months of planning and practice went before the recording, which took place over two and a half days at Hungerford Primary School.
Ian Holmes, who became musical director a year ago, conducted the band throughout the recording.
Composer David Fanshawe helped with planning the recording. His two works on the CD are called Fanfare To Planet Earth and Millennium March.
Other works on the CD, which can be bought for £10 from Aldbourne Post Office, include Born Free, Hello Dolly. Autumn Leaves and, for the finale, the theme from the Batman movie.
Band spokesman Rob Williams said: "A large amount of hard work in the months preceding and following the recording weekend has been put in by the band, conductor and producers and many other people that helped in the making of the CD."
The CD is also available by post £11.50 from Alan Watson on 01672 540580.
