AN inspirational performance and a brace of tries from pack leader James Hazel helped Minety seconds trounce neighbours Malmesbury.

Having done the hard work up the slope in the first half, the seconds cut loose after the break and ended with a total of six tries, having successfully prevented their opponents scoring a single point in reply.

Flanker Hazel finally broke the deadlock after half an hour, sweeping up ball from a breakdown in the visitors' 22, and driving over for a try from eight metres out.

Captain Mike Strong then successfully kicked the first of his four conversions to give the home side a narrow seven-point lead at the break.

Lock David Hazel crashed through for the second try after the interval, before brother James executed an identical move for the third.

Mike Strong made excellent ground before dummying the Malmesbury fullback and nipped in for a try under the posts.

Winger Duncan Drewett then got in on the act, handing off both the opposing winger and the full back before crossing the try line in the corner and Alistair Grierson finished the job with the final try for the hosts.

Minety seconds travel to Tetbury on Saturday 8 March.
