TAXIS in Chippenham passed a safety test when they were scrutinised in the town. Police, the vehicle inspectorate and licensing officers called in 20 of the town's taxis to the North Wilts District Council car park last Friday to carry out unscheduled tests.
While police and vehicle examiners checked for roadworthiness, district and county licensing officers examined vehicles to see if they complied with their licences.
First aid kits and fire extinguishers were also checked.
Traffic police officer Ian Soulsby, who co-ordinated the spot checks, said: "We only had two delayed prohibition orders served and most of the problems regarding first aid equipment and fire extinguishers were put right before the taxis went on their way.
PC Soulsby said: "We were pleasantly surprised at the standard. It shows that the taxis in the Chippenham area have their house in order."
A spokesman for Lady Pamela Cabs in Palmer Street said: "Our taxis have regular checks. Public safety is of great importance to us."
