A KEY sponsor of the Chippenham Town FC Design a Stadium competition is appealing to budding construction workers to get their designs in.

Wavin, a Chippenham based construction company, is the main sponsor of the competition and is looking to its future bank of employees to get to their entries in.

Posters detailing how to enter have now gone to every school in the county.

Wavin Plastics Ltd employs more than 800 people across the country. It designs and manufactures drainage pipes. The company is keen to emphasise its commitment to the local community.

Marketing services manager for Wavin, Carol Heneghan, said: "For a number of years we have had an extensive community programme in place and we are involved in a range of things from local charities to sporting groups for young people."

Chippenham Town Football Club launched this latest competition in a bid to get ideas from the local community about what they wanted from any new stadium the club may build in the future. The challenge is to draw a leisure complex, which includes a football stadium, or other sporting activities, and the club is awarding prizes to the best designs.

And Wavin is on the lookout for potential staff. Ms Heneghan said: "We liked the idea of the Design a Stadium Competition because it targets the young people in the area and there is a massive shortage of people coming into the construction industry, so anything that encourages more young people to get involved in design and construction is what we want to be involved in.

"We are a local employer, and it is important that we work with the young people locally, because these are our future employees."

Entries will go on display at Chippenham Library in the first week of the Easter school holidays. Commercial manager at Chippenham Town FC, Susan Evans, said: "People can use whatever paper or materials they like for their design. This competition is not just reserved for the creative people out there if people just want to use sketches and words to describe their design then that is fine. Ideally, we would like a football field included in the design, but all sports are welcome."

The deadline for entries is April 3. Anyone who needs any more information about the competition or how to enter can contact Mrs Evans at Chippenham Town FC on (01249) 705 912.
