MARCH 7: AN EMOTIONAL reunion in a Melksham town centre pub led to a drink-driving conviction for a grieving Melksham mother.
Officers stopped, Dorothy Hodsoll, of Churchill Avenue, on Queensway in the early hours of January 11.
Magistrates in Trowbridge heard on Thursday how Hodsoll met up with a former friend of her son, who committed suicide three years ago.
Suffering from flu, Hodsoll accepted a "pick-me-up" drink from her son's friend before driving home.
Unable to provide a breath sample because of the illness, Hodsoll, 64, was taken to Melksham police station to provide a blood sample. Her blood alcohol level was 7mg over the legal limit.
Malcolm Wieck, defending, said Hodsoll was never intending to drink-drive and accepted the gesture without realising it would send her over the limit.
