A PAPER-RECYCLING scheme launched by staff at Wiltshire County Council has been hailed a huge success.
Employees at County Hall recycled 82.5 tonnes of paper, a 50 per cent increase on the 56 tonnes recycled the year before, the equivalent of saving 1,400 trees and 11,000 gallons of fuel.
As part of its green drive the authority is today holding a Fair Trade and Energy Efficient Day for staff.
Every employee in County Hall will be sent a questionnaire about the use of energy in their home, which will then be analysed by energy experts.
They will then be advised on energy saving techniques in the workplace and at home.
The council has also undertaken a number of other green initiatives over the past two years including green travel plans, promoting energy efficiency, using electricity generated from renewable sources, and the introduction of recycling stations around County Hall to collect cans, plastic, and glass.
