SKURRAYS WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: TROWBRIDGE held on to their unbeaten home record as they became the first side to take points off the Premier Division leaders since the middle of November.

The home side found themselves under pressure at the start, Lee Wilson originally doing well but then slipping to let a Shrewton forward in to cross the ball to the near post. The chance went wide.

Trowbridge then settled and played some good football despite the heavy conditions. They attacked on both flanks and for a while looked in control. Shrewton however, had scored 111 goals in just 25 league matches before this match so the defence had to cope with very experienced attacking visitors.

Jessie Walters went close for Shrewton after 20 minutes with a toe-poked shot that went just wide. On the half-hour, Dave Percival somehow weaved his way through three Shrewton defenders and into the penalty area only for a fourth defender to just get a foot to the ball causing him to lose possession and Shrewton cleared.

The second half again saw some flowing football from both sides. Walters went close again after 56 minutes, Town goalkeeper Adam Sheppard just getting his finger-tips to the shot, which was then cleared.

The match was never dirty but Shrewton defender Luke Kearley was unfortunately sent off for a second yellow card offence and Trowbridge took the lead shortly afterwards.

Gavin Eyre did well to keep the ball in play on the right and set up Dave Mitchell. Having his first shot saved, Mitchell made no mistake with the follow up after 60 minutes.

Trowbridge held the lead until the dying minutes when Shrewton's prolific scorer Dean Foot equalised.

Stratton Crosslink and Wroughton both picked up maximum points to keep them in the frame for the Premier Division championship.

Wroughton were the day's highest scorers in the Premier Division, defeating bottom-of-the-table Malmesbury Vics Reserves 7-1, while Stratton Crosslink beat Aldbourne 1-0.

Cricklade Town and local rivals Purton shared the points in a 1-1 draw, Craig Tonkin scoring from the spot for Cricklade after Phil Corcoran had been brought down. With victory looking likely for the home side, Purton struck through Johnny Coule with just three minutes to go.

Biddestone's revival continued with a 6-0 success over Pewsey Vale Reserves, John O'Meara chalking up a hat-trick, Steve Healey adding two and Rob Pocock scoring a sixth.

Marlborough Town and Westbury United Reserves shared the points, Paul Beavers scoring for United.

In the Intermediate Division Dunbar Westside gained a 3-1 win over Sherston to stay 10 points clear at the top of the table. Geoff Swatton (2) and Mark Connelly were on target for Dunbar and Nick Tanaidyes for Sherston.

Second-placed Wanborough United ran out 7-3 winners over Down Ampney thanks to four goals from Paul Parsons, two from Richard Merchant and one from Neil Brimson.

Calne Town Reserves gained a 5-0 away success over bottom club Blunsdon United, Steve Davies (2), Stuart Wallace, Pete Temple and an own goal doing the damage.

Shock result of the day was in the Junior Division where leaders Ferndale Rodbourne were beaten 1-0 at home by Chiseldon Castrol. Cricklade Town Reserves kept their title hopes alive with a 2-1 win at Bromham. Danny Powell gave the home side an interval lead, with Paul Tranter and Dave Devine striking for the visitors in the second half.

Dunbar Westside Reserves completed a good day for the club by beating bottom-of-the-table Minety 4-0.
