A short time ago I went into a photo-kiosk in Warwick, Western Australia and had a big surprise when the person serving me asked if I came from Wiltshire.
The lady turned out to be Hazel Holmes who used to live at Winterslow Road, Trowbridge, which is a couple of hundred yards from where I live.
Hazel knew my neighbours quite well. She moved from Trowbridge to Bristol in the early 70s then migrated to Australia in 1989. Although now divorced, she still has a daughter in Australia, but her son returned to the UK and runs a hairdressing salon in Bristol. Her husband worked for EJ Martin, a family business at Westbury.
I don't know what the odds are of meeting someone like that so very far from home but I should think pretty high.
David White,
On holiday in Australia.
