MARCH 7: A MOTHER who drove home from a pub at more than twice the legal alcohol limit has been banned from driving for two years.
Elizabeth Shah, 43, of Common Hill, Steeple Ashton, drove home from The Hungry Horse despite knowing she was over the limit.
Police officers stopped her Peugeot 306 on the A350 between Yarnbrook and Steeple Ashton at 11.30pm on February 21.
Failing a roadside breath test Shah was arrested and taken to Melksham police station. Her lowest reading was 88mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
Muriel Wrench, defending, said Shah was drinking that evening because her husband was due to drive home, but she was left stranded at the pub when her partner became ill and went home early.
Mrs Wrench said: "She knew the moment she got into the car it was the wrong decision."
