Although there is no proof that radiation emitted from phone masts is a real risk to health, the arrival of mobile telephone masts at the now derelict Princess Margaret Hospital sparked protest among residents.
People living nearby were shocked to see a 25-metre telephone mast appear on the site last December despite it being turned down for planning permission.
Two other similar sized masts were mounted in January.
The masts can stay for up to six months, as they were installed under emergency planning powers.
But the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust is tied into contracts with mobile phone telephone companies to provide a site for masts on the strategically important Okus site until 2006.
Because the council refused the application, the Trust faces having to maintain an empty building for at least three years.
Mast Action UK and Mast Sanity are national campaigns for the sensible sighting of mobile telephone masts.
